Maybe Boy George? I knew him at the very beginning of his career when he was working in a store in Covent Garden London. I took his first cover photo for Melody Maker in 1981. He had a kind of sweet innocence back then, all the British grannies loved him. These days he seems very different. Probably changed by drugs and the music business. Who was the one person(s) that you learned the most from and what did you learn? I learned a lot from seeing the way people live in poor areas like Brownsville, NY to East LA. It makes you appreciate what you have. Did you have a preference in music styles as far as what type of artist you would shoot? Did you prefer punk, hip hop, rock and roll, political figures, etc...? I loved to shoot both the punk and hip hop figures, so exciting and visual. And the rockers, I still do. I'm interested in all sorts of people famous and regular people on the street too. If you could pull it off, what would be the ultimate picture or photo shoot in your own unique vision? To travel around USA documenting youth movements of today, i.e., everything from surfers to skinheads, and have it published as my next book. Do you have any upcoming projects that you would like to tell us about? Hoping to work with this brilliant clothing designer Acapulco Gold on shots of his new T's. And working on a music project with Tank Magazine. |
